Even though the USC off-campus apartments area is usually generally safe, it is always important to take precautions.

See our Mosaic Student Housing tips on how to be safe at your USC off-campus apartment below:

  • Never walk alone in the dark; always use the buddy system. Try not to be wandering around too late at night.
  • It is always good to check out the crime statistics in your area online or by asking neighbors.
  • Try to keep your windows and doors locked even when you’re at home, and especially when you go to sleep.
  • Check smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and other alarms regularly to see if they are working properly.
  • Always make sure you know who it is before you open the door. Make sure your door has a peep hole or install the Ring system.
  • Under no circumstances should you let workers in, if your landlord or property manager hasn’t notified you.
  • Do not keep anything valuable in your car, and keep its doors locked at all times.
  • You can also register your personal belongings with the USC Police Department, so it is easier for them to find them in case they’re stolen.
  • Hang out around your USC student housing apartment neighborhood, and get to know your surroundings.
  • Call 911 if you see anything or anyone suspicious. Trust your instincts.
  • Make sure to know all security systems available to you at USC. They will always try to ensure their students’ safety!
